If you’re considering some midcentury primary bathroom design ideas, we suggest browsing our photo gallery to see what elements of this style you like best so you can create your perfect primary bathroom.
Minimalistic Design Elements
The midcentury primary bathroom relies on a minimalist design to make a significant impact. Sharp lines and fun geometry work perfectly with this style, so you’ll likely notice a lot of tile lining the walls, shower, bathtub, or floor. Ceramic floor tiles are common in the midcentury style, and they’re also one of the most popular flooring options, overall, in the bathrooms we analyzed. This flooring was found in 28.37%, or 80,595, of the 284,048 bathrooms. Tiles help create the overall look of sharp, sleek lines for which this style is known.
You can also use rectangular furniture, like bathtubs and vanities, to create the modern-midcentury design you see today. Of course, if you want to do more of a throwback to the original designs from the 1950s, a curved vanity or desk can be a fun element to add.
Midcentury Materials
This style gives you a lot of room to play around with the materials you like best. Most midcentury primary bathrooms stick to simple, sleek wooden cabinets with flat panels that lend to the overall smooth finish of the design. A flat panel cabinet is a top choice in bathrooms we studied, found in 87,426, or 31.38%, of the 278,612 bathrooms.
As for countertops, again, many materials are acceptable in this design. But, marble and quartz countertops tend to be some of the most popular choices to bring a more modern feel to the style. These materials are the 2nd and 3rd most commonly-used in the bathrooms we analyzed, with marble found in 21.65% and engineered quartz found in 21.15% of the 265,810 bathrooms.
Many midcentury bathrooms also use glass showers, brass, copper, or gold finishes, and even wood panel feature walls to mimic some of the favorite design elements from the decade.
