“Tuscany meets Spanish hacienda,” is how the Houston-based designer William W. Stubbs describes the sprawling residence he conceived for his clients in a quiet neighborhood north of San Antonio. The landscape architecture is by John S. Troy.

In the kitchen, a collection of antique French ceramics tops the maple cabinetry. The chandelier was discovered at a flea market in Paris. A circa 1790 cast-iron fireplace fragment is above the Wolf range. Sink, Herbeau.

The dining room is "a charming place for friends and family to gather for meals and holidays," notes Stubbs. Early-20th-century German hand-tooled-leather chairs flank the hand-carved Italian table. An 18th-century Flemish tapestry hangs at left. Drapery fabric, Robert Allen.

Vaulted ceilings in the entrance gallery enhance the dramatic view from the front door to the pool pavilion 150 feet away. Hanging at left is a circa 1800 Venetian textile.

The Mediterranean-style pavilion faces the pool and offers an area for lounging. Above the fireplace is an antique Mexican tile mural, Casa Azulejos.
