You've seen one Apple store, you've seen them all—or have you? Apple recently released new photos from the grand opening of its new location in Dubai 's Dubai Mall, and it's pretty clear: This isn't your average Apple product destination.
Dubai's second Apple store (the third in the UAE) seem more tourist spot than electronics store. Apple Dubai Mall is situated in the shadow of the Burj Khalifa and offers a breathtaking view of the famous Dubai Fountain. The store boasts a 186-foot curved storefront and balcony, along with 18 custom 37.5-foot-high motorized "solar wings" designed by Foster + Partners, which respond to the city's unpredictable climate. The wings will help cool the store down when the temperature is at its hottest and will open to allow visitors onto the terrace on cooler nights.
According to Apple , the store was "envisioned as a space for the community to gather, learn and be entertained."
"We view our stores as a modern-day town square, where visitors come to shop, be inspired, learn, or connect with others in their community," said Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of retail, in a press release . "And what better place to come together than overlooking Dubai’s epicenter, where the Dubai Fountain, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall meet. We are so honored to have a home at one of the world’s most incredible and dynamic intersections."
True to that sentiment, Apple says that Apple Dubai Mall will do more than peddle the hottest gadgets in town; the locale will play host to events, including live musical performances, intimate conversations with filmmakers and photographers, and workshops.
Even prior to its opening, photos of the new Apple store had made their way onto social media , but you can take a drone-filmed tour of the building—and see the first official pictures from the stunningly designed location—below:
