In December, Etsy’s resident trend expert Dana Isom Johnson published her predictions for shopping trends in the New Year. And according to Etsy shoppers who began prepping for 2021 during the holiday season, sky blue is about to be big in both home decor and fashion.

Searches for sky blue items jumped 39 percent at the end of 2020 with Etsy shoppers feeling the need to introduce some tranquility and calm into their lives—now more than ever.

Working sky blue into home decor aesthetics by way of throw pillows, table cloths, and ceramics is one way to soften a palette and prep the mind for brighter, bluer skies after a storm.

Johnson also predicts that Etsy shoppers will also look more into multi-functional furniture and design pieces as we continue to work from home and use our spaces for more than one purpose. Searches for foldable and wall desks jumped by 399 percent at the end of 2020, and both searches for room dividers and Murphy beds gained traction with a 130 percent increase.
